Gail Maureen Garrity (GG), of St. Charles, Illinois, long time Geneva resident, passed away peacefully in her home on August 15, 2023. She was born February 23, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of William and Carol (Malone) Garrity.
Most precious to Gail was the time she spent with friends and family. Whether she was listening to a story or sharing one, unpretentious and genuine laughter always filled the room. Gail smiled and laughed her way through life and most often viewed it through a humorous lens.
Volunteering was a vital part of who she was as it provided her with meaningful connections to individuals in her community. The list of organizations for which she volunteered was long and noteworthy. She acted as Chair of the volunteers at St. Peter’s Barn Sale for many years, she regularly volunteered at Hesed House, she served as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), and she provided transportation for young women seeking asylum through Bethany House of Hospitality. Gail spent countless hot summer afternoons with her daughter and grandchildren at her pool. It was a great day when GG was willing to get her hair wet and “do a melon”. She always looked forward to having sleepovers with her grandchildren and spoiling them with ice cream at Colonial Café. Some of Gail's "favorites" were her chewy chocolate chip cookies made with real butter, a Reuben, a sirloin steak rare, a cold glass of milk with pizza, and Snowy Mashed Potatoes at Thanksgiving. She loved drawing and had most recently discovered a passion for watercolor painting, which she shared with family and friends on personalized cards. Traveling gave her much joy, and she visited destinations all over the United States, in Mexico and in Ireland. Most recently, she took part in a road trip with her son and granddaughter to spend Christmas in Florida, she attended her goddaughter's wedding in South Carolina, and then in Minnesota, where her adventurous spirit pushed her to take a glider flight with her grandson.
She is survived by her children: CaraLeigh (Matthew) Heidgen of Batavia, Illinois, Joseph (Jennifer) Lompart of Northfield, Minnesota, and Kelli (Max) Sinclair of DeKalb, Illinois; grandchildren: Max and Eleanor Heidgen, Rodin and Clara Lompart, and Karina Sinclair; brothers: Mike (Julie) Garrity and Matt (Diana) Garrity; and many other friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her siblings, Charles Garvey, William Garrity, Elizabeth Sumner, and Patrick Garrity.
