Eugene Ernest “Gene” Peterson, age 89, of St. Charles, passed away Monday, November 29, 2021, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 5, 1932, in Chicago, the son of Joseph and Lily (Sederholm) Peterson. He graduated from DeKalb High School in 1950 having served as class president.
Gene proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, with his brother Vern. He graduated with a master’s degree in education from Northern Illinois University. He taught high-school business and communication at East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, Illinois, from 1957 to 1963 before moving to West Chicago High School where he served as a guidance counselor until his retirement in 1994.
Gene was an avid member of Chapelstreet (formerly First Baptist) Church in Geneva where he actively participated in a care group for many decades and regularly took part in the men’s Bible study. He was a proud member of Kiwanis clubs in Franklin Park and Geneva and loved to volunteer his time at the Northern Illinois Food Bank. However, his greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his children Deborah (David) Clark of Longmont, Colorado and David of Evanston, Illinois; siblings Vern (Priscilla) of Leesburg, Florida and Audrey of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; grandchildren Benjamin Clark, Joshua (Alicia) Clark, Matthew (Ryan) Clark, and Rachel Clark; and many other dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald, and loving wife Donna who passed away in 2012.
