Eugene “Gene” Earl Gaik, age 91 of St. Charles, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021 at Bria of Geneva.
He was born May 22, 1930 in Chicago to Eugene “Jerry” and Katherine (Hinds) Gaik.
Gene enjoyed being with his friends. You might have seen him hanging out at Jim and Sam’s Bar in Chicago, playing practical jokes on neighbors on Yorkshire Lane in Crystal Lake, and attending a Friday night happy hour at Del Webb in Huntley. He loved cooking, working out, dancing with his wife, traveling, woodworking, and watching the Bears on Sunday. Most of all, Gene loved spending time with his family whether it be fishing, swimming in his daughter’s pool, playing a raucous game of cards or just enjoying each other’s company.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Dawn (Niemann) Gaik; daughters, Glori (Joseph) DeJure of St. Charles and Elizabeth “Betsy” (George) Dowse of Wisconsin; 6 grandchildren, Alison, Natalie and Russell (fiancé Aylissa) Gaik, Emma (fiancé Jason) and Jackson DeJure, and Abby Dowse; and many other dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Major Eugene W. Gaik (USA, Ret.), and his son-in-law, Joseph DeJure.
A visitation for Eugene will be held December 18, 2021 at 11:00 am until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva, IL.
