Elizabeth “Betty” M. Bivin, a longtime resident of Sterling, Illinois, passed away on July 22, 2023 at her home in the Greens of Elgin.
She was born July 12, 1923 in Dixon, Illinois, the daughter of Clifford Gilroy and Lois (Warkins) Gilroy.
She married the love of her life, Evan Bivin, in 1942. She worked for many years at Sears in Sterling, both as head cashier and inventory control manager. She loved doing many kinds of needle work and began sewing at an early age. She was an accomplished seamstress. After her retirement, she developed an interest in quilting and became a master quilter. She shared many of her beautiful quilts with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter Marilyn Mathers of St. Charles, Illinois and her son Dan (Dotti) of Tallapoosa, Georgia; grandchildren Nicole (John) Guagliardo, Colette (John) Lindenberg, Shane (Tara) Bivin, Stacy Paden, Shawna (Chris) Rowan, and Samantha Bivin; 17 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her son-in-law, Gerald Mathers.
