Eileen Betty (Zakavec) Vacovsky

Eileen Betty Vacovsky, age 94, of Aurora, Illinois, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Seasons Hospice in Naperville.

She was born November 23, 1926, in Chicago, the daughter of Emil and Rosa Lee (Ruzicka) Zakavec.

Eileen married LeRoy Vacovsky in 1949 after dating for three years. They lived in Chicago above their Uncle Frank’s furniture store for a year, then bought a house in Westmont, IL, and together they raised their two daughters.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.

She kept herself busy and loved gardening. She and LeRoy also were known for their giant talking carved and painted pumpkin at Halloween and beautifully decorated homemade gingerbread houses at Christmas. Her grandchildren carry many fond memories of times with her which included playing with pink noodles, eating jello with chopsticks, whipped cream fights and having grandmother put whipped cream on their fingers!

She is survived by her son-in-laws David Welch of Yorkville and Patrick Ryan of Downers Grove; grandchildren Cori (Tate) Knutson of Oswego, David (Katie) Welch of Sugar Grove, Sean (Lisa) Ryan of Peoria, Arizona, Sheryle (Aric) Webb of Good Hope, James (Carrie) Ryan of Somonauk, Mark Ryan of Bolingbrook, and Jeremiah (Sarah) Ryan of Westmont; 14 great-grandchildren, Ashley Endress, Jordyn and Lillian Carter, Hannah Webb, Tyler and Colin Ryan, Brach and Aiden Knutson, Hannah, Bryce, Grace, and Brody Welch, Vera Ryan, and Eleanor Ryan; and many other dear relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughters Linda Ryan (1991) and Penny Welch (2015); and her loving husband LeRoy who passed away in 2008.

A private burial will be held at Clarendon Hills Cemetery in Darien.
