Edward J. “Ed” O’Brien, Jr, age 66, of Chicago, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago.
He was born October 15, 1958, in Chicago, the son of Edward J. and Corynne B. (Hartel) O’Brien.
Ed loved a good joke and treasured a shared laugh. He loved to experience culture, visit museums, and travel; he lived in numerous major cities and made friends everywhere he went. He enjoyed the theater, going to movies and recorded his own music. He was a free spirit filled with creativity.
Ed worked in the hospitality industry and, once he relocated back to Chicagoland, he opened his own eatery on the north side. His favorite part was connecting with his customers.
He is survived by his siblings Cory O'Brien and Bill (Ruth) O'Brien both of Geneva; niece Kathryn; and nephews Daniel, and Thomas; and other dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward J. O'Brien and Corynne B. Hartel-O'Brien and partner Keith Christopher.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
