Edward J. “Ed” Johnson II, age 78, of Geneva, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 3, 1946, in Chicago, the son of Edward and Lorraine (Harbacek) Johnson.
Edward was slow to smile, but when he did, it was infectious, He lived by the golden rule, "do unto others as you would have others do unto you". He enjoyed telling stories and making people laugh. More than anything, he loved helping others, especially those less fortunate, and fighting for injustice. He was a natural mentor, whether it was coaching youth sports, leading boy scouts, teaching folks the English language, or his favorite role, being a grandfather. A huge animal lover, he rescued 8 orphan dogs during his life and became a vegetarian in his 50's. He loved Tootsie Pops and Oreos, pizza on Fridays, the Sox, and Da Bears. And hated the Cubs. His happy places were working in the garden, walking the dog, or being just about anywhere as long as he had his loving wife by his side.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years Elaine (Wnuk); sons Edward III of Chicago and Christopher of Geneva; grandson Elias; brother Terry (Ellen) of Elgin; and many other dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
