Dr. David T. Hicks, age 80, passed into the loving arms of God on Monday, August 26, 2024 in Peoria, Illinois.
He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on November 10, 1943, the only son of L.T. and Mary Ileen Hicks.
The family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma when David was young and he grew up there. David was a proud graduate of Edison High School, the University of Oklahoma, and the Illinois College of Optometry. He relocated to the Chicago area where he opened his own optometry practice in 1970. He was beloved by his patients, but he could never remember their names, only their faces. David enjoyed church camping with his family, the occasional round of golf, trips to Maui, and Oklahoma Sooners football and softball. Boomer Sooner!! After his retirement, David and his wife Lynne bought a Winnebago motorhome and they enjoyed even more camping with their friends in the Cardinal Capers group.
He is survived by his beloved sister Cheryl Powell of Fayetteville, Arkansas; children Ryan (Jennifer) Hicks of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Chad (Elizabeth) Hicks of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Jennifer (Dan) Marquette of Germantown Hills, Illinois. He was the proud grandfather of Harry and Maeve Hicks and Samantha Marquette. He was also thrilled when step-grandchildren Devin, Gabriel, and Lilliana Dean were added to the family. He was a wonderful uncle to several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by Lynne his wife of almost 50 years, and his parents.
A visitation for David will be held Friday, August 30, 2024 from 9:00 am until the time of his funeral service at 10:00 am at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva with Pastor Brian Coffey officiating.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcTYfWJg4tg
Burial will follow at Prairie Cemetery in St. Charles.
