Dolores E. Morphis Obituary

Dolores E. Morphis, age 79, of Plainfield, IL passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Robin’s Nest Assisted Living Facility in Geneva with her loving family by her side.

She was born November 13, 1942 in Battle Creek, Michigan, the daughter of George and Dorothy (Clark) Morphis.

Dolores grew up in Chicago, IL. At eighteen years old she married Kenneth Jones. During the time of their marriage, they had two daughters, Dorothy and Laura. In her twenties Dolores moved to Southern California. There she met and married Cysler Witherspoon. This union resulted in the birth of their son, Cysler III. As a mother, Dolores passed on to her children some of those elements that made her so remarkable: strength, independence, intelligence, work ethic, a love of music and duty and commitment to serve family and community.

Dolores built a career that had predominately been to defend and serve. Very early in her career, she was a police officer for the Pomona, CA police department but she was most proud of her thirty-one years of civilian service for the U.S. government, Department of Defense. On September 16, 2010 at the request of U.S. Senator John Kerry, an American flag flew over the U.S. Capitol in honor of her retirement.

Dolores fiercely loved life and fought to hold on to it, finding joy in all she could, until the very end. Whether she was spending time with her friends and family, enjoying a delicious meal and glass of wine, talking on the phone to various loved one’s far away, or wrapping herself up in current events or Sunday football, she was always all in. She was as brilliant and breathtakingly beautiful as she was strong, and she will be forever missed.

She is survived by her children Dorothy (Tom) Phillips of Massachusetts, Laura Stone of Geneva, and Cy (Sylvia) Witherspoon of Indiana, grandchildren Mercedes Aida (Dan) MacDonald, Benjamin and Grace Phillips, Joel, Jade, and Jordan Strong, Daniel and Sarah Stone, Josh (Kei) Wallace, Diego Stoute Silva, Caribe Stoute-Witherspoon, and Maya Stoute-Witherspoon; siblings Debra Reynolds and Donald Walker; and many other dear relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Dorothy, identical twin sister Diane, brother Gary and son in law Daniel.

Services for Dolores will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
