Diana Cummins-Zak Obituary

Diana Cummins-Zak, age 79, of Batavia, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 15, 1943, in Joliet, the daughter of Charles and Geraldine (Riley) McMaster.

Diana loved her family and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. She was a lover of reading, art, words, creating dried floral arrangements, and music. She was a fan of the Chicago Cubs, hockey, and soccer. When she lived in Geneva she was an active participant in the St. Peter Mothers Club and coached soccer. She held many jobs in her life as an editor, a realtor, and shopkeeper at their store My Secret Garden in Lake Geneva, WI until she pursued a calling as the youth minister at St. Gall in Elburn for many years after volunteering with her husband Mike in the youth ministry program at Holy Cross. In 2000 Mike and Diane closed Geneva Enterprises, their Real Estate Appraisal and Property Management business, as both felt called to go into full time Youth Ministry. They complimented one another and together they built a ministry that brought retreat programs to parishes in Chicago and beyond.  One of the highlights for her was the World Youth Day Trip to Toronto that she and Mike planned with over 100 people traveling to be with St Pope John Paul the II. After retirement, her focus turned to her grandkids and sharing stories and creating wonderful memories with them. A trip to grandma’s with a well stocked and very accessible snack pantry has always been a treat for all of the grandkids.

She is survived by her husband of 42  years Mike; children Greg (Kim) Cummins of McKinney, Texas, and Jenny (Tony) White of Geneva; grandchildren Sean, Lindsey, Christopher, Gracie, Claire, and John; sister Kay Castle of Batavia; and many other dear relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son Jack as well as Mike’s parents and her brother-in-law and his wife, Chris and Laurie Zak.
