David “Dave” Frederick Spitler, age 79, of Geneva, passed away Wednesday,
October 17, 2018, at home with his family by his side.
He was born January 7, 1939 in Chicago, the son of Frederick and Lillian (Reidl)
Spitler.
David graduated from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas. He worked as a
credit manager at USG for 30 years. He served on the board of CMCMA. He was
an active member at the churches he attended. He served as a Brigade leader,
treasurer, trustee, building committee, and several projects. He served on the board of Ginger Lane Homeowners Association for 17 years.
David loved spending time with his children and 15 grandchildren. He enjoyed
traveling and photography.
He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 59 years Meredith (Anderson); sons
Jeffrey (Melody) of Stillwater, OK and Douglas (Heather) of Naperville; daughter
Julie (Robert) Backode of Naperville; grandchildren Sarah (Daniel) Schrader,
David, Rachel, and Christine Spitler; Kaitlyn (Nick) Horst, Hannah, and Lauren
Spitler; Mollie Backode; Rebekah (Caleb) Bartel; Hayley Spitler; Emily and
Amanda Backode; Susanna, Jonathan, and Logan Spitler; great-grandchildren
Phoebe Schrader and Amelia Horst; and sister Joan Allison of Cookeville,
Tennessee; and many dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation for David will be held Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 3 pm Chapelstreet
Church, 2300 South St, Geneva, IL 60134 until the time of the funeral service at 4
pm with Pastor Jeff Frazier officiating.
Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery.
