David Lloyd Alvord, age 79, passed away on February 10, 2026.
David was born on August 3, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, where he was also raised—a city he carried with him throughout his life. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged, a reflection of his dedication, courage, and sense of duty.
David built a strong work ethic throughout his life. He retired from Lucent Technologies as an engineer after many years of dedicated service. Even after retirement, he remained active and enjoyed connecting with others, working as a host in a restaurant for several years before fully retiring.
Above all, David was a loving father. He is survived by his children, Kimberly England and Michelle Sidorowicz; his sister, Libby Heitz; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, David Alvord, and his brother, Al Alvord.
David had a deep love for the simple joys in life. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course, where he found both relaxation and camaraderie. He was an avid collector, always on the lookout for unique and interesting items, a passion that brought him much happiness over the years. Above all, he cherished his dog, who was a constant companion and source of comfort.
David was known for his great sense of humor and his lighthearted, friendly nature. He especially enjoyed sharing laughs and a bit of playful flirtation with the many wonderful nurses and healthcare providers who cared for him over the years, bringing smiles to those around him even in difficult times.
David will be remembered for his quiet strength, his warmth, and the joy he brought to others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Burial will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
