Darrel D. Scarff, age 87, of Geneva, passed away Monday, May 26, 2025 with his loving family by his side.
He was born July 18, 1937 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Edwin and Melva (Wanner) Scarff.
Darrel graduated with his BA from the University of Iowa and his MA from the University of Missouri.
Darrel was curious and loved to learn. His most recent interest was physics. He was a brilliant writer and loved crafting a short story and then pouring over and over the piece to get it just right.Darrel loved the game of pool and spent many of his days studying the game and playing with friends at the senior center. He was funny, full of a unique dry wit that the whole family enjoyed. He often came to the dinner table with a riddle for everyone to try to solve. Darrel was purely authentic. He never pretended to be someone else but rather gave you his genuine, honest self in all its unique form.
Darrel loved his family and was dedicated to his grandkids; finding out what made each one unique and working hard to connect with them. He was the best hugger; giving a strong hug that made you feel loved.
Darrel is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Patricia; daughter Courtney (John) Mahaney; grandchildren Ella, Finnegan, and Maeve Mahaney; siblings Audreen (Mike) Herrera and Julie (Eric) Bonewitz; and many other dear relatives and friends.
