Darlene H. Harris Obituary

Darlene H. Harris, 84, of Geneva, passed away September 18, 2022 at Delnor hospital.  She was born on January 16, 1938 in Gilman, WI to Irving and Lucille (Smith) Groves.

Darlene was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was married at the young age of 16, and was a devoted wife for 55 years to her late husband John.  Darlene worked 30 years as a highly respected nurse at Delnor's intensive care unit after earning her GED and attending Aurora University. She was a woman of extreme intelligence and independence that valued hard work, family and faith. There was nothing Darlene couldn't fix, create, or solve - from remodeling, mechanics, plumbing, crocheting, gardening, sewing and more. She was a talented painter, bowler, card shark, traveler, and a landlord of several properties. Darlene spent her life giving and serving others as a Casa court appointed advocate for underprivileged children, as an English as a second language tutor, a preparer of taxes at the senior center, the secretary of her investment club, sewing doll outfits for children in need, as an election official, an usher at the Paramount Theatre and served in many capacities within the church. Darlene was an avid sports fan, never missing her grandchildren or great grandchildren's games. Above all, she loved her family relentlessly and selflessly. Her presence, guidance, wisdom, and quiet strength will be dearly missed. It is time for you to go into the arms of Jesus. "Well done, good and faithful servant."

She is survived by her daughters Judy (Dean) Aldridge of Sugar Grove and Cheryln (Paul) Cameron of Geneva; Grandchildren Violet Gronberg, Valerie (Brett) Leach, Nick Cameron; Great Grandchildren Megan Gronberg, Ethan Gronberg, Lila Mittman, Caleb Mittman and many other dear relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Irving and Lucille Groves, husband John Kenneth Harris who passed away in 2010 and her brother Delmar Groves

Burial will be held privately at River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia, Illinois with Minister Dwight Dally officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the charity of your choice.
