Daniel “Dan” Andrew Stone, age 57, of Geneva, Illinois passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Northwestern Delnor Hospital in Geneva, surrounded by his family.
He was born August 16, 1962 in Seattle, Washington. He was lovingly chosen by his parents, Jack and JoAnn (Burgwald) Stone, when Daniel was six months old in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up in Naperville, Illinois.
Dan was a graduate of Naperville Central High School. He proudly earned his metallurgical engineering degree from the University of Illinois and his MBA from Indiana University. He was the director of technical sales and services at Nelson Steel, serving the company he loved for seventeen years. Dan lived a big life. His intelligence and enthusiasm propelled him to explore a variety of hobbies: football, beekeeping, sailing, skydiving, skiing, hiking, and canoeing. He even finished three marathons. Dan made wine, beer, and was an excellent cook. He loved music; not only did he attend every concert he could with his wife, he played guitar, loved to sing, and mastered the art of the dad joke. He was a scoutmaster for many years, and some of his greatest adventures were the high adventures he took with his son in the Boy Scouts of America. He was equally thrilled by the adventures he took with his daughter. They played games, made candles, and could talk and laugh for hours. Dan was a man of many talents; he was a loving husband, father, and friend who will be dearly missed.
Daniel is survived by his loving wife, Laura (Jones) of Geneva; children Daniel and Sarah both of Geneva; his step children, Joel, Jade, and Jordan Strong; His sister Linnette (Chester) Stoll of Georgia; and many other dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
