Cheryl L. (Merrick) Hurt

Cheryl L. Hurt, age 73, of Geneva, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Delnor Hospital in Geneva with her loving family by her side.

She was born on September 24, 1952, in Watseka, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Loretta (Keath) Merrick.

Cheryl attended Eastridge High School in Kankakee, IL and graduated with honors, from Illinois State University, Normal, IL with a degree in Business Administration. At ISU she met her loving husband, with whom she shared life’s great adventures for more than 50 years, that included raising three special women. She loved watching Big 10 and SEC football, traveling with family, growing flowers in her yard, and collecting cardinal keepsakes. Cheryl most enjoyed being a grandmother. She rarely missed a soccer game, dance recital, special event, or an opportunity to spend time with her grandkids.

Cheryl is survived by her husband Raymond Hurt; daughters Jessica (James Milkert) of Downers Grove, Illinois, Jennifer (Louey Guillen) of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Amelia (Rick Shelby) of New Orleans, Louisiana; and five grandchildren Rowan, Evelynn, Iris, Vivienne, and Nathaniel. She is also survived by two brothers; three brother-in-laws; two sister-in-laws; and many nieces and nephews, and close family friends.

Cheryl will be deeply missed by all.

Celebration of Life for Cheryl will be held at a later date.
