Carol Baltzar Birch passed away March 3 2023 at home surrounded by her family.
Carol Jean was born on November 23, 1939 to Nils (Dick) and Dorothy E. (Wicklund) Baltzar at Geneva community hospital. She was baptized at Bethany Lutheran church where she attended Sunday school. She later transferred to Immanuel Lutheran church. She attended Batavia schools graduating the class BHS 1957.
In 1957 she did a term paper on Valley School for the exceptional children her first introduction with special needs children. Carol served for 8 years on the Aurora Mental health and retardation (name changed to ASSN for Individual Development ASSN (AID). In 2002 she became a volunteer for CASA - Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children for 12 years. Retired from Accenture after working there for over 20 years.
While attending St. Marks church she met Amy, the director of The Joshua Tree Community which is a Program for non-aggressive young adults with intellectual disabilities over the age of 22 or are no longer in public education and over the age of 18. They were looking for a volunteer for Monday mornings, she thought that would work out really good for her. She volunteered there until her cancer came back and she then began chemo. She volunteered for the Relay for Life | Cancer Walk special event doing what was needed within the survivor tent.
Her specialty was doing Grandma’s Christmas for several years. She read a Christmas story to her grandchildren and foster grandchildren. Santa came and passed out presents to them, then they all ate pizza. This was her special time that she spent with all the grandchildren. She also did a tea party for the girl grandchildren. She is survived by her children Christopher (Diane) Birch, Rebecca Kassinger, Guy Birch, stepsons Gary Birch and Greg Birch, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, brother Ron (Leslie) Baltzar.
She is proceeded in death by her husband Richard, parents Nils and Dorothy (Wicklund) Baltzar and grandparents Claus and Hannah Wicklund.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Malone Funeral Home, from 9:00 am up until her Memorial Service at 11:00 am, with Reverend Dr. Mark Tusken officiating
Burial will be held privately.
