Carol M. Hookham

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Carol M. Hookham of Elburn.  Surrounded by her family in love and prayer, she went to be with our Lord on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at the age of 95.

She was born April 7, 1931, in Aurora, Illinois, the daughter of Ralph and Eva Hoffman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Marilyn, and her devoted husband Douglas.

Carol dedicated her life to building a beautiful home and family. Her sixty-four-year marriage to Doug was an inspiring example of love and devotion and she missed him terribly after his passing in 2021. Doug and Carol previously resided in Geneva before Doug built their home in Elburn. They were lifelong members of St. Mark’s Church for over 60 years and she was a member of the Altar Guild at the church. Carol lived a full life of creativity and style. She used her talents to sew clothing and Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren over the years. When a new baby was on the way, family and friends all looked forward to receiving a beautifully crocheted baby blanket with love in every stitch. Her immense love for her family was reflected in her daily life, warm holiday celebrations and amazing home baked sweets. Carol’s creative spirit extended to her love of fashion and jewelry, beautiful garden flowers and home decorating. She was the keeper and creator of all of our best memories and her example of kindness and a charitable spirit will live on in all of us.

Carol is survived by her children Jill (Dennis) Ryan of Kentucky, Christine (Daniel) Gierke of Elburn, Timothy (Barb) Hookham of Elburn, and Mitch (Kathleen) Hookham of Kentucky; grandchildren Ryan (Amanda) Gierke, Lindsay (Alex) Giardino, Cole, Karmyn, Shane, Jay and Trevor Hookham, and Miranda and Declan Ryan; great grandchildren Faith and Autumn Gierke, Ja’vonni Johnson and Maverick, and Margot Giardino. Carol also leaves behind her faithful companion dog, Jimmy John.

 A memorial service and visitation will be held Saturday, July 25, 2026 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 320 Franklin Street, Geneva, Illinois. Visitation will start at 10:00 and service will begin at 11:30. Father Mark Tusken and Father Tom Atamian will officiate.  We invite all family and friends to join us for a luncheon in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.
