Carmi Bonifas

Carmi Bonifas age 72 of Geneva passed away on Friday May 26, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Carmi was born February 26, 1951 in Elmhurst, IL. the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Maiale) Miller. Carmi was a 1969 graduate of Geneva High School.

Carmi loved her children and grandchildren fiercely. She never missed a soccer or football game, and she wasn’t afraid to threaten the referees with her “mafia connections”. She hosted sleepovers where the grandkids fondly remember jumping on the bed while dancing to the Mambo No. 5 and waking up to the smell of cinnamon rolls and Swedish pancakes.

Carmi loved having a house full of people and she could often be found making pizzas with her husband, Ed. She tells stories of shopping with her best friend LeeAnn and laughing till they peed their pants. Carmi left an impression on everyone whose path she crossed, whether they knew her for 30 minutes or 30 years.

She is survived by her husband, Ed; children Josh (Stacey) Carlson, Amber Lennartz, Annie Bonifas and Elizabeth (Kevin) Kawczynski; grandchildren Tyler (Cassie) Carlson, Trevor, Taylor and Troyer Carlson, Dylan, Grace, and Mackensie Lennartz, Hannah and Nathan Kawczynski; great-grandchild Millie May Carlson; siblings Mary Bartle, Cathy Clarke and Clara Kinst; also survived by Josh and Amber’s father Gary Carlson.

Carmi was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Toni, Butch and her twin brother, Michael, who died in infancy; and her brother-in-law Jim Clarke.

Visitation will be held Thursday June 1, 2023 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State St. (Rt. 38) Geneva.

Visitation will also be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 10:00 am up until Carmi's celebration life service at 11:00 am at Geneva Lutheran Church, 301 S 3rd St, Geneva, IL 60134

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva.
