Betty Evelyn Dietrich, aged 96, a longtime resident of Geneva, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, September 7, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 21, 1926, in Bluford, IL the youngest child of Charles and Inez (Gregory) Thomas. Betty grew up on the family farm and attended school in nearby Mt. Vernon, IL. After completing her schooling, she moved to Geneva to seek employment. This is where she met her husband Harold E. Dietrich while he was home on leave visiting his sister. They were married September 11, 1946, in Nebraska while awaiting his discharge from the Navy. After his discharge they settled in Geneva where they raised their family and operated H.E. Dietrich and Sons Excavating for many years before turning the business over to their sons.
Betty enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, fishing, and RV traveling around the country. After her children were grown, she and her husband enjoyed splitting their time between their homes in Geneva, Brownsville, TX and Patch Grove, WI.
Betty is survived by her children Linda (Wayne) Jakusz of Sebastian, FL, Randall (Janet) of LaFox, IL, and Charles (Karen) of Suring, WI; as well as her grandchildren Jonathan Jakusz, Matthew (Tanja) Dietrich, Natalie (Leland) Webster; and great grandchildren Leo Probst-Jakusz, Nora Inez and Evie Mae Dietrich and Isla Elizabeth Webster. Her loss is also grieved by her beloved canine companion Andy.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years Harold. Also, by her parents Charles & Inez Thomas, siblings Waylon, Victor, Jack, Williard, and Burrel Thomas and Virginia McKinnis, and granddaughter Cassandra Jakusz Calandra.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street, Geneva
