Bernice M. Hanes

Bernice M. Hanes, age 84, of St Charles, passed away November 14, 2024 surrounded by her daughter Jill, CNA Johnetta, and other Bickford family members.

She was born May 24, 1940, in Orwell Township, Minnesota, the daughter of Aldon and Alvina (Cookman) Rix.

Bernice was the youngest of eight children.  She grew up on a farm.  She had many fond memories of life on the farm in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

She married Waldo Scott in October of 1963.  They had two daughters, Lesley and Jill.  They moved to Geneva in 1971.  She worked many years at Wallace Computer Services until she retired in 2004.  She lived in Iowa until 2021 when she returned to Illinois.  She lived at the Bickford of St Charles for three years.

She is survived by her daughters Lesley (Mike) Harvey of Kentucky and Jill (Greg) Karm of Elgin; grandchildren Camryn and Luke Harvey; and sisters Phyllis Nelson, Charlotte Nelson, and Dora Fossen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bud Rix, and three sisters Jess Heyen, Shirley Cawthray, and Geneva Rawson.  

Burial services will be held at a later date.
