Barbara Downer

Barbara Downer passed away suddenly at her home on December 21st, 2022, at the age of 86. She was born on June 23rd, 1936, in Villa Park, IL to Robert John and Sallie Dessa Williams, the youngest of their four children.

She was full of life, fiercely independent, and generous to a fault. Barb spent much of her time helping friends and family and socializing with her friends. She enjoyed staying connected to her many family members and was committed to continuing the family genealogy that her mother started. Barb was quite a storyteller and had many fun stories of growing up in the 1940’s with a menagerie of animals, endless pranks, and summers spent in Alabama. Later in life, Barb became a born-again believer and her life showed evidence of a person who was radically changed by the love of Christ.

Barb was a loving mother to Taylor and Sally; mother-in-law to Amy and Greg; grandma to Lauren (Jordan), Nick (Bre), Cameron, and Ryan; great grandma to Lincoln, Lucy, Libby with two more great grandchildren expected in 2023. Barb is also survived by her twin brother Bruce and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Sallie, sister Joan, brother Reg, and daughter Sally.

While we will miss her, we take comfort in knowing that she is now with her Savior – Jesus Christ.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 30, 2022 from 9:00 am until the time of her memorial service at 10:00 am at Chapelstreet Church, 2300 South Street, Geneva with Pastor John Hoekenga officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva.
