Arthur H. Black III, known as “Art” to his friends and as “Big Papa” to his grandkids, age 85, passed away Monday, June 6, 2022 at his daughter’s home in St. Charles.
He was born September 30, 1936, in Chicago, the son of Arthur & Gladys (Witte) Black II.
Early childhood years were in Illinois. Later the family relocated to Kansas where they purchased a farm, which required lots of work, and this is where Art learned the value of a strong worth ethic early. Art joined the United States Air Force in 1956 and proudly served his country for four years. Art enjoyed a long career in sales, which led to management, and later became part owner of a company. Over the course of his career, he had the opportunity to travel the world.
In his free time, Art loved to boat, golf, travel in his RV, while listening to George Jones. Later years he loved to zoom around town on his scooter, watch Turner Classic Movies, and have a cold Miller 64 with a wood tip swisher sweet. But his greatest enjoyments in life were helping meet the needs of those around him and spending time around his family and friends.
He is survived by his children Arthur Black IV of Millbrook, Joni (Heidlauf) Redpath of St. Charles, Scott Redpath of St. Charles, and Lori Gall of Kansas; grandchildren Shelbi Gall, Hayden, Ashley, and Olivia Heidlauf, and Arthur Black V; sister Elizabeth (Dean) Behrens of Florida; nieces and nephews Brent and Brittany Behrens, Emily Behrens, and Patrick and Jasie Behrens; great nieces Adalynn and Teagan; the mother of his children Jean A. Beach of St. Charles; and many other dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Gloria Black.
A visitation for Arthur will be held from 9:00 until the time of his memorial service at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Geneva Lutheran Church, 301 S. 3rd Street, Geneva with Pastor Trudy Stoffel officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 5501 N. Cumberland Ave #101, Chicago, Illinois 60656 would be appreciated.
