Arthur Allen Raeder Obituary

Arthur Allen Raeder, age 91, of St. Charles, Illinois, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021, at Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau, Wisconsin, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on December 14,1929, in Tucson, Arizona, the son of Arthur, and Ida (Gerhardt) Raeder. Arthur was raised in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, upon graduating from high school, he continued his education at UW - Platteville, obtaining his degree in Civil Engineering. He then went on to proudly serve his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He began his career working for the State of Illinois, Department of Transportation. After 36 years of service and dedication to the state he was ready to begin a new chapter in life, semi- retirement. The next several years were spent consulting before fully retiring, truly appreciating that way of life for many more years.

Arthur was an avid golfer, often playing well into December. He liked downhill skiing, and also played tennis for many years. He spent countless hours on the water, fishing for bluegills, crappies, and walleyes. Everyone looked forward to eating that catch at the annual fish fry held at Betty Lou’s house in Elkhart Lake. That, along with attending all the racing events at Road America, a tradition that still continues, taking his “final lap” this past August. He enjoyed traveling, especially when it meant being a spectator at all the different sporting events his grandchildren participated in. He loved watching the Green Bay Packers and most certainly was a Wisconsin Badger fan too.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Susan (Hartley); children Tom (Carrie) of Wausau, Wisconsin and Rebecca (Scott) Hultine of Elburn, Illinois; grandchildren Jacob, Zachary, and Bradyn Raeder, Alexandra (Garrett) Heintz, and Samantha Hultine; sister Betty Lou Lanser of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin; and many other dear relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother George (Dolores) Raeder, Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
