Ann E. Hanses Obituary

Ann Elizabeth Hanses, 65, passed away on February 1, 2020, at her residence in Elgin, IL.

Ann was born in Dayton, Ohio to Edward Henry Hanses and Gladys Irene (Miller) Hanses on September 24, 1954. Born with cerebral palsy, Ann approached life with passion, engagement and determination.

Ann’s strong faith, which began at home and along with her education in Catholic Schools, guided her throughout her entire life. She prayed for her family daily, and continually wished the best for all. She was a loving and caring daughter, sister, sister-in-law and aunt.

Ann inherited the gift of conversation from her father and combined with her engaging smile, great sense of humor and wit, she made many friends from all walks of life. She was involved in many clubs and activities, always making positive and constructive contributions. She was truly loved by all.

She enjoyed a competitive game of Pinochle and spending time with her extensive family of aunts, uncles and cousins. During our family camping trips, she led us with her beautiful voice, in campfire songs. Later, Ann continued her travels vicariously through her extensive DVD collection.

Ann became an advocate for those in need and assumed a leadership role at her assisted living home. She wrote letters regularly to family and friends, sharing her experiences and sending words of encouragement. She always ended these with “God Bless”.

In her later years, Ann reflected and wrote inspiring stories about the joys and challenges in her life. As she requested, these will be published, along with a tribute by her family and friends. All proceeds will go to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.

Ann is preceded in death by her father, Edward Hanses, sister-in-laws Robin (Scully) Hanses and Jill (Hammerlund) Hanses.

She is survived by her mother, loving brothers and sisters, Mark Hanses, Patrick (Judy) Hanses, Daniel Hanses, Mary (Keith) Davis, Teresa (Gary) Richardson, Andrew (Darlene) Hanses, John Hanses and Susan (Joseph) Murphy. She was a cherished aunt and cousin to many.
