It is with deep sorrow that we announce that Andrew S. Kissamis, age 68, passed away on April 2 in Geneva, Illinois. He was born on January 13, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois as the first born of the late James and Barbara Kissamis.
Andrew attended the University of Houston and carried his love of all things Texas through this life. He worked for the Batavia Public School system for 18 years. Andrew loved his children immensely and his greatest passion was always them and their interests. He spent much of his life as a stay at home dad while his children were growing up, always stepping up to be a “ballet dad” who was surprisingly successful at executing a ballet bun or a “band dad” who was so enthusiastic about his son’s interests’ that he learned how to play multiple instruments so that they could always play together. There was no interest of his children’s that was too small and he was always all in when it came to their pursuits no questions asked.
Outside of the home, he was an avid athlete who played hockey his whole life and went golfing at any opportunity he could. Without a doubt, Andrew was always the life of the party - he loved dancing, playing music and telling stories and jokes with his loved ones. He never met a stranger and could be counted on to bring good cigars, good bourbon and some Frank Sinatra energy to any event.
He is succeeded in death by his Old English Sheepdog, Olivia who loved him so deeply they were reunited in heaven on April 6th.
Andrew is survived by his children, Jacob Kissamis and his wife Marcella of Nashville, TN and Abigail Kissamis of Brooklyn, NY; his sister Paula Tippit of Houston, TX; his brother John Kissamis of Galveston, TX, his brother George Kissamis of Cypress, TX; the mother of his children, Laura Ash of Nashville, TN; his current long-term partner Diane Coughlin of Geneva, Illinois along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss him.
At his request he was celebrated in a private service and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva, Illinois.
Andrew’s legacy of loyalty, laughter and learning new things will be carried on by those he left behind. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all who knew and loved Andrew.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to donate to Red River Old English Sheepdog Rescue on his behalf or please reach out to the family directly if you are interested in donating to a memorial bench in Andrew’s honor. https://form.jotform.com/201298688329166
