Albert D. “Al” Merigold, age 88, passed away Friday, January 7, 2022 at Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora with loving family members by his side.
He was born September 28, 1933, in Chicago, the son of Albert and Virginia Merigold.
Al grew up in Chicago and went to St. Rita High School. He was a longtime resident of the LaGrange Highlands and served as President for both the Lyons Township Little League and the Highlands Civic Association. He had a successful career as a manufacturing rep for Hamilton Glass. His 4th of July parties were legendary and gave all who attended lasting memories. He enjoyed golfing, watching the Chicago Cubs on TV, and singing around the house. He made all family and friends feel welcome, and always made jokes to make them laugh. His legacy is left through his many children that pass on his positive attitude, his generosity, and his humor.
He is survived by his children Michael (Kathe) of Palos Park, Joseph (Lisa) of Elgin, Catharine of Colorado, Robert (Ramona) of Morton Grove, Diane (Keith) Kratky of Missouri, John (Kerri) of Texas, Steven (Tina) of California, Barbara of Aurora, Joanne (Jeff) of Tennessee, Caroline (Dean) of Oswego, and Karen (Kerry) of Plainfield: 19 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings Virginia Plant, Lorraine Clark, and John Merigold, and his devoted wife Eileen who passed away in 2014.
A visitation for Al will be held Friday, January 14, 2022 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 15 at 11:00 am at Malone Funeral Home with Father Jonathan Bakkelund officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Wheaton.
