Violet “Vie” E. Kraft, age 90, of Batavia, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Presence Mercy Medical Center surrounded by her family.
She was born December 23, 1927 in Chicago, the daughter of Harry and Ester (Nee Hurtig) Ogren.
Vie was a 1946 St. Charles High School graduate. She worked five years for Illinois Bell as an operator and supervisor prior to her marriage to Karl W. Kraft on April 22, 1950 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles.
She served as office manager for their family plumbing business, K.W. Kraft and Sons in Batavia. She was an avid gardener and gifted artist in oil paintings. Vie was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Batavia, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
She is survived by her husband Karl W. Kraft; three sons John (Andrea) Kraft, Robert (Carolyn) Kraft, and Peter (Leslee) Kraft all of Batavia; seven grandchildren Kelly (Elias) Ford of Nebraska, Benjamin of Florida, Joseph of Chicago, Jaymie (Dori Stein) and Chelsea both of Batavia, and Samuel and Annie Kraft of Chicago; three great-grandchildren Ann, Eli, and Mathew Ford of Nebraska; two sisters Sara Murtaugh of Batavia and Sally Mayer of Mount Carroll; sister-in-law Elaine Kraft of Wheaton; several nieces and nephews; and a neighborhood full of great friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister June Wise, two brothers Henry (Ruth) and Daniel (Evelyn) Ogren, brother-in-laws Everett Kraft and Robert Murtaugh.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11:00 am at Bethany Lutheran Church, 8 S. Lincoln Street, Batavia with a luncheon to follow. Reverend Steven Srock will officiate.
Interment will be held privately at West Batavia Cemetery at a later date.
