Royce M. Wray, age 87, a 52 year resident of St. Charles and Geneva, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Greenfields of Geneva surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in 1931 in Flint Michigan, the son of Milton and Elizabeth (Schlitts) Wray.
Royce graduated from Arizona State University. He served in the United States Air Force and completed his military career with the Air National Guard 183d Tactical Fighter Group while working at American Airlines as a commercial pilot. Toward the end of his 25 year career with AA, he flew the Boeing 767 internationally.
Royce had a beautiful lyric tenor voice and was a member of the Fox Valley theater group Playmakers. However, his real passion was automobiles and motor sports. His family enjoyed watching him road race with the Sports Car Club of America for many years. He also loved woodworking and gardening. He will be dearly missed by all of his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Anne (Wickersham); children Elizabeth of Geneva, Michael (Mary) of Campton Hills, and Margaret Jane (William) Sames of Wisconsin; grandchildren Luke and Zachariah Sames, Brian Cresson of Arizona and Whitney Cresson of Colorado; and brother-in-law Chris Wickersham of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Dr. Susan Wray.
A memorial service for Royce will be held Sunday, November, 25, 2018 at 3 pm at Greenfields of Geneva, 0N801 Friendship Way, Geneva.
Interment will be held privately.
