Rocadella C. “Rockie” McConnaughay, age 96, of Geneva passed away Monday, April 2, 2018 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva.
She was born May 16, 1921, in Geneva, the daughter of Patsy and Theresa (Benedetto) Perrone.
Rockie worked for 10 years at the Veterans Affairs office in Geneva and for Portable Electric Tool Company. She enjoyed cooking and baking and had gained a reputation over the years among family and friends for her peanut butter-chocolate chip-oatmeal cookies. Her greatest enjoyment in life, however, was spending time with family and friends including her frequent travels to visit them across the country.
In 1946, one year after his return home from service, Rockie married Terry McConnaughay, who survives. They had caught one another's eye four years earlier while serving in the wedding party of Rockie's sister, Mary, who was marrying Terry's brother, Glenn.
Then came World War II, and Terry and Rockie corresponded for four years, a St. Charles guy serving far from home in Europe and a Geneva girl awaiting his return.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years Terry; sons Dale (Catherine Ann) of White Cloud, MI. and Mark of Elgin; daughter-in-law Peggy of Nevada City, CA.; grandchildren Erin McConnaughay, Rebecca Bratcher, Brent (Carrie) McConnaughay, and Bryce (Lynette) McConnaughay; great grandchildren Kate Lee, Jack Lang, and Evan Bratcher; and many other dear nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved son James; sisters Mary McConnaughay and Ann Perrone; and her brother Jerry Perrone.
Our mother who was 96 years old was the living personification of the following quotation. “Some people no matter how old they get never lose their beauty. They merely move it from their faces into their hearts”.
A visitation for Rockie will be held Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 12:00 pm until the time of her memorial service at 3:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva with Father Jonathan Bakkelund officiating.
Burial will be held privately at West Batavia Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to American Cancer Society, 1801 Meyers Road #100, Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois 60181 or Northwestern Medicine Home Health and Hospice, 690 E. North Avenue, Carol Stream, IL. 60188 would be appreciated.
