Welcome to the memorial page for

Robert J. "Bob" Dean

March 13, 1967 ~ December 10, 2017 (age 50) 50 Years Old

Robert J. Dean, age 50, beloved son of Robert K. & Jessica Scharf Dean, died at his home in Faribault, Minnesota on December 10, 2017of heart failure.  Born in Toledo, Ohio on March 13, 1967, he was the fifth of six children.  When he was nine months old, Margaret Spirko joined the family, an “older sister” to all.

A graduate of Geneva High School in 1985, Bob continued his studies at Illinois State University and Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois.
For the past 20 years he lived in Minnesota but he enjoyed the friendship of lifelong friends no matter where he resided.  His uncle, Bill Scharf, said Bob was “a gentle person”.  A little known fact was that Bob loved poetry and could recite from memory his favorite ones.

In high school Bob was on the basketball and golf teams.  However, it was golf that captivated him and he worked diligently at lowering his handicap.  He was a student of the game, and his friend and golf pro, Pat Lenski, shared many PGA events with him.

His brothers, Chris of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Pat (Kathleen) of Highland Park, Illinois, and Matt of Faribault survive him.  His sisters, Anne Evans and Margaret Gillison, of the Pheonix, Arizona area are also saddened by his loss.  Nieces Emily, Melissa and Molly of Highland Park miss their Uncle Bob.

Numerous cousins from Maine to California, Aunts Carole Fox and Judy Jester, Uncle Bill Scharf and more distant relatives survive him.  His friends over his lifetime are too numerous to list but each and every one has a special memory of Bob.

He was preceded in death by his beloved father, Dr. Robert Dean and his beloved older brother Mike.

A memorial celebration of Bob’s life will be held at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street Geneva, Illinois on Saturday, December 30th 2017.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a noon service led by Msgr. Stephen Knox.

Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva, IL will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.
