Richard M. Hughes, age 90, of DeKalb, formerly of Geneva, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Bethany Nursing Home in DeKalb with his loving family by his side.

He was born April 11, 1927 in Darlington, Wisconsin, the son of Francis and Mildred (Larson) Hughes.

Richard served his country in the United States Marines. He worked 43 years for Jefferson Smurfitt of St. Charles. He was an avid pool player. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family and friends. .   

He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years Gilma (Mann); daughters Debra (Jim) Lordan of Hawaii, Cheryl (Robert) Paver of St.Charles, and Lori Hughes Davidson of Rochelle; grandchildren Sarah (Chad) Schusler, Ben (Stephanie) Galpin, Emily and Eli Tischhauser, Jeryd (Charlotte) Davidson; great grandchildren Veronica and Josephine Davidson and Ashton Galpin; siblings Jerry (Dorothy), Bill (Betty), Paul (Mavis), Dwayne (Kay), and Jane Nelson; and many other dear relatives and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Robert, Samuel, and Jack.

Visitation for Richard will be held Tuesday, October 24th 2017 from 9:00 am until the time of the funeral prayers at 12 noon at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State St. (Rt. 38), Geneva.  Proceeding to St. Peter Catholic Church 1891 Kaneville Road Geneva for celebration of funeral Mass at 1:00 pm with Father Bakkelund Celebrant. 

Burial will be held at River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials made to any Veteran’s Association would be appreciated.
