Mildred (Millie) Gardner, age 96, of Geneva, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Greenfield’s of Geneva.
She was born July 13, 1922 in Champaign, the daughter of Roy and Mary (Kuyrkendall) Denney.
Millie was a good friend and a wonderful caretaker. She adored taking care of her great grandchildren when they were little and watching them grow into the beautiful women they are today. She was proud of her granddaughters and was always there to lend a hand, a story and a hug. The smile on her face when she held her great-great granddaughter was priceless. Millie was known for baking her famous “Pound cake”, “Blueberry Buckle” and “Fudge”. She always had a care package for her family when they traveled and was flattered when her friends asked her to bake for special occasions. The last 5 years she spent at Greenfields was a big change, but she found a way to make a lasting impression on many staff members and residents. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.
She is survived by her granddaughters DeDe (Steve) Bagg of Esmond and Amy (Marty) Hilmer of Geneva; great grandchildren Mackenzie (Tyler) Livingston, Hailee Hilmer, and Abby and Maggie Bend; great great granddaughter Charlee Livingston; son-in-law Dan Cantrell of Sycamore; and many other dear relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Joe and her daughter Joyce Cantrell who passed away in 2014.
Services for Mildred will be held privately.
