John A. Smith

John A. Smith, age 78, of St. Charles, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at home. 

He was born August 1st, 1940 in Chicago, the son of Julius and Bernice (Hojnowski) Smith.

John worked as a machinist mechanic for BMC in West Chicago for many years.  He was a longtime member of the St. Charles Moose club, as were many of his family members.  John loved to hunt, race cars, and collect model trains.  His favorite pastime however, was spending time with his family and he will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years Shirley (Lezon); children Joyce (Craig) Sprau of Batavia, John (Sharon) of Kirkland, and James of St. Charles; grand children Joshua, Justin, and Alyssa (Vince) Gianfortone; great-grandchildren Frankie Gianfortone; brother Julius Jr.(Mija) of Crest Hill; and many other dear relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be held Sunday, November 18, 2018 at 1 pm at the Malone Funeral Home, 324 East State Street/Rt. 38, Geneva, IL 60134 until the time of his Celebration of Life service at 3 pm with Rev. Msgr. Steve Knox officiating.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202 would be appreciated.
