James P. Ekberg, age 87, of Geneva, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Delnor Community Hospital.
He was born February 16, 1932 in Norway, Michigan, the son of Albert William and Lorraine (Hooper) Ekberg.
James graduated from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan class of 1953. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked as an accountant for many years and volunteered for the AARP tax aid. James enjoyed golfing, was a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan, and loved spending time in the upper peninsula. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife Barbara (Cienkus) of 60 years; daughter Mary Beth Kern and son Thomas Ekberg; granddaughter Lorraine; nephews Jim & John; and many other dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Albert W. Ekberg Jr.
Funeral prayers for James will be held Monday, August 12, 2019 at 9:30 am at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva proceeding to St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva for Celebration of Funeral Mass at 10:30 am with Father Jonathan Bakkelund celebrant.
Interment will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at 10:00 am with full military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 11 from 2:00 – 7:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home with a liturgical wake service at 6:45 pm with Deacon Greg D’Anna officiating.
