Helen McDonald Obituary

Helen Rose McDonald, age 99, of Batavia, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Northwestern Delnor Hospital in Geneva with her loving family at her side.

She was born October 2, 1920 in Geneva, the daughter of Jack and Rosa (Ottani) Forni.

Helen spent most of her life in West Chicago.  During that time Helen and her husband Tom owned and ran several sporting goods businesses including Little Nine Country Club, Bowling Green, The Pines Ski Area, and AAA Sports.  Helen’s passion was playing golf and she loved to watch all sports especially tennis and golf.  In her spare time she loved to paint with nail polish, sketch, and to work on puzzles.  Helen was very kind and loving and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her children Thomas (Rose) McDonald Jr. of Joliet, Mary Ann Spielman of West Chicago, and Bryce (Mercy) Brown; grandchildren Donna (Joe) Cessna, Lisa (Sean) McGinty, Tom (Marlene) McDonald III, Ken (Sherry) Spielman, and Kristie (Russ) Phillip; great-grandchildren Joey and Matt Cessna, Nicole (Michael) Cessna-Moore, Olivia, Grace, and Tommy McDonald, Tara, Keira, and Sean McGinty, Jack and Ava Spielman, and Dakota and Brock Phillip; great-great-granddaughter Madeline Cessna-Moore; sister-in-laws Sandy and Barbara Forni; cousin Ann Pattone; Tracy McDonald Zernzach; and many other dear nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Thomas McDonald who passed away in 1993; friend Herb Brown; brothers Elmer, Joe, and Louis Forni; sister Ann Jaschob; and son-in-law Gary Spielman.

Funeral Prayers will be held Monday January 6, 2019 at 9:30 am at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva proceeding to St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2900 E Main St, St. Charles, IL 60174 for Celebration of Funeral Mass at 10:30 am with Father Charles Warren Celebrant.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in West Chicago.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 5 from 2:00 – 6:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home with a liturgical wake service at 5:45 pm.
