Francis Bernard "Bernie" Bowker Obituary

Geneva- Francis Bernard “Bernie” Bowker, age 76, passed away Friday, December 14, 2018 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva with his loving family by his side.

He was born May 25, 1942 in Aurora, IL, the son of Ivan and Bernice (Des Lauriers) Bowker. After attending University, he was honored by becoming one of the first 100th employees hired by Fermi National Accelerator in Batavia, Illinois. He enjoyed a creative and exciting career there for over 35 years. He worked with Nobel peace prize winners and leading scientists around the world. He was respected and loved. He retired in 2000.

Bernie was a long time member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, and served his community for many years. He was strong, smart, and an incredibly hard working. He was a kind man and endearingly sentimental in his old age. He was beloved by animals and children, friends and neighbors.

His favorite pastime was spending time with his family, traveling the world, and adoring animals and nature. He will be deeply missed by all.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Rosalinda (Ramirez) Bowker; daughters Lynette (Dennis) Renner of Cortland and Laurie (Craig) Gatto of Gurnee; grandchildren Hillary (Josh) Rice of McNabb and Bennett Gatto of Gurnee; great grandson Jonah Rice; sister Mary (Jim) Nickels of Nebraska; brother Joseph Bowker of Texas; and many nieces, nephews, friends and family.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents.

Bernie’s family invites you to celebrate his life with them on Friday, January 4, 2019 for a visitation from 3:00 pm until the time of his memorial service at 5:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva.
