Donald Stueland Obituary

Donald E. Stueland, age 86, of Geneva, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva surrounded by his loving family.

He was born October 12, 1932 in Chicago, the son of Martin and Anne (Kind) Stueland, and he carried a twinkle in his eye throughout his life.

After graduating from Loyola University Chicago, Donald worked as a director of human resources for Peoples Gas for 37 years and raised his family with his beautiful wife in Northbrook. Upon moving to Williamsburg, Virginia, he led the development of the sacred arts program at his parish, St. Bede’s. His passion was classical music and Christmas, he loved singing with choral groups, and was a prolific poet, having written more than 50 poems to his wife upon each anniversary to chronicle their life together. No matter what, he always had room for dessert. A kind, clever and gentle man, Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years Rosemary (Monson); children David (Nancy) of Geneva, Illinois, Susan (Jeffrey) Wade of Naperville, Illinois, and Katherine Stueland of San Francisco, California; grandchildren Kayla (fiancé Mike Imo) Stueland, Daniel Stueland, Jack Wade, and Caroline Wade; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jerry Stueland and John Stueland, sister Anita Miraglia, and brother-in-law Frank.

A visitation will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 9:30 am until the time of the Memorial Mass at 10:30 am at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva with Father Jonathan Bakkelund, celebrant.

Burial will be held privately at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 Michigan Ave, Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601 or Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, 721 N. LaSalle, Chicago, Illinois 60654 would be appreciated.
