David A. Gaytan, age 34, of Durango, Colorado, formerly of Geneva, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017.
He was born August 18, 1982 in St. Charles, the son of Armando and Barbara (Browne) Gaytan. At the age of eighteen David joined the Rainbow Tribe and later, with the many friends he met there, decided to rebuild a school bus into a kitchen that they called TKK (Those Kids Kitchen). They traveled around the country collecting donations to feed those in need throughout the United States. David was always a free spirit and would do anything for others. He always had a knack for creating beautiful things with his hands. He loved painting, creating jewelry, and making dreamcatchers and slingshots. David’s daughter was his life.
He is survived by his daughter Taylor Jane Gaytan and her mother Kathleen (Casey) Trice both of NM; father Armando (Janet) Gaytan of St. Charles; mother Barbara (Tom) Petersen of Chicago; siblings Daniel Gaytan of Chicago, Taylor Marie Gaytan, Joseph Gaytan, and Chase Simmons of St. Charles; Tom, Jason, Tina Saltzman, and Robert Petersen of Chicago; grandmothers Geneva Browne of TX and Maria de Jesus Rivas de Gaytan of Mexico; and many other dear aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 26, 2017 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm and Saturday, May 27 from 9:00 – 11:00 am at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva.
A funeral service for David will be held Saturday, May 27 at 11:00 am at Malone Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date at Westside Cemetery in Geneva.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Taylor Jane Gaytan in care of Kathleen Trice would be appreciated.
