Christopher K. Dean, age 57, died at his home in Grand Rapids, Michigan on September 30, 2019. Born on March 19, 1962 inn Toledo, Ohio, he was the oldest child of Robert and Jessica Scharf Dean.
Chris was an elevator adjuster and technician for 38 years. He worked for Schindler Elevator in Atlanta. In 2008 he relocated to Grand Rapids and was employed by Otis Elevator. He enjoyed sailing, fishing and classic cars. He was best known, however, for his generosity and devotion to family and friends.
His mother Jessica Dean, along with his brothers Pat (Kathleen) of Highland Park, Illinois and Matt of Northfield, Minnesota survive him; as do his sisters Anne Evans of Tempe, Arizona and Margaret Gillison of Prescott, Arizona. Molly, Emily, and Melissa his nieces in Highland Park also survive. Also left to mourn are his aunts Carole Fox, Judy Jester, and his uncle Bill Scharf. Numerous cousins from Maine to California fondly remember Chris. Friends he made over his lifetime all have a special memory of him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved father and his brothers Mike and Bob.
A memorial celebration of Chris’s life will be held at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva, Illinois on Saturday, October 12, 2019.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. with a 4 p.m. funeral service.
Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
