Victoria L. Lackey Obituary

Victoria (Vicki) Lynn Lackey passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family Friday, April 26, 2024, after complications from congestive heart failure.

She was born in Aurora, Illinois on April 20, 1948, to Walter and Elsie (Riedelsperger) Rissman.  Vicki grew up on a dairy farm in Elburn where she regularly milked the cows and enjoyed eating plenty of sweet corn and tomatoes alongside her five siblings (Darryl, Marcia, Dave, Connie, and Gary).

After attending Elburn grade school and graduating from Kaneland High School in 1966, she began working at Dreyer Medical Clinic in Aurora. She was soon promoted to work as a medical assistant. Vicki also managed a dental office in Elburn and then went on to work in the role of staff assistant at the Amoco Research Facility in Naperville. Then, post-retirement, she enjoyed working at Fox Valley Orthopedic in Geneva. Her love of people and desire to help them translated well within the fields she worked.

She met the love of her life, Ken, and they were united in marriage, June 12, 1971.  A few years later they built a house in Elburn, IL where they raised their two children, Darren and Dawn, and remained there until retirement at which time they relocated to Horseshoe Bay, Texas. The desire to be close to their growing family living in Illinois pulled them back to Geneva.

She loved to travel nearly as much as she loved spending time with her family. Her trips abroad with Ken, friends, and family were appreciated as they satisfied her sense of adventure and curiosity for other cultures.

As a grandmother, she attended every recital, competition, and sporting event as she was able.  She supported her grandkids and showed great encouragement for their many passions and endeavors.

She cherished her social time with neighbors and friends and hated to pass up a good happy hour. She was a season ticketholder at the Paramount Theater in Aurora and delighted in attending those shows with various friends and family.  She also enjoyed crafting holiday-themed items for others, which would often benefit various local charitable organizations.

Vicki was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ken; two siblings, Darryl Rissman and Connie Erickson, as well as her parents, Walter and Elsie.  She is survived by her children, Darren (Courtney) Lackey and their three children:  Grant, Macey, and Reese of Geneva, IL and Dawn (Bryan) Cummins and their five daughters:  Madelyn, Isabella, Lilly, Gabby, and Sophia of Aurora, IL, as well as a number of family members she loved dearly.

Vicki will always be remembered by her devotion to her family, sense of adventure, enthusiasm for life and the love for a good Manhattan.

It was her desire for others to celebrate her life rather than mourn her passing. She always found a way to celebrate the beauty of living in any circumstance.

A visitation will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 3:00 pm until the time of her memorial service at 5:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street, Geneva.

Burial will be held privately at Blackberry Township Cemetery.
