Mabel B. Veach, age 103, of Batavia, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024, at the Michaelson Health Center.
She was born August 5, 1920, in Westmorland, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth Yeager.
Mabel frequently spoke of the farm life she loved, and the work ethic it taught her. After moving to Illinois, she worked at Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago. She married William Veach and had three children. Mabel, while working as a Punch Press Operator, accidentally damaged her middle finger. She proudly would present her “stub” to anyone who questioned it! Her love and devotion to family had no bounds, as she was “Grandma” to everyone.
"Grandma Mabel" worked for many years at Hammond Organ in Chicago as an organ assembler. She loved country music, dancing, the Chicago Cubs, and reading the daily newspaper. She was fiercely independent and drove her car well into her 90s!
She is survived by her son Charles (Pam) Veach; grandchildren John (Fredrika) Melone, Elisa Kuri, James (Raquel) Melone, Thomas (Christine) Melone, Julie (Joseph) Bruso, Justin (Erica) Veach, Erin (Jordan) Stemas, and Autumn Veach; nineteen great grandchildren; and ten great great grandchildren; son-in-laws John Melone and Louis Gitterli.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings William and Francis Yeager, Dorothy Bedillion, Mary Balser, and Ruth Plymire; and her two children Darlene Melone and Karen Gitterle.
Visitation for Mabel will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 6:00 pm until the time of her memorial service at 8:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Alzheimers & Dementia Research/Alzheimers Association https://www.alz.org/research would be appreciated.
